Position Details
This position provides personal training within a group setting in water and land-based classes for adults.
Instructors work a variety of hours dependent on class schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in water or on land for group classes.
Makes positive connections and motivate participating patrons.
Effectively performs and completes exercises with a class.
Utilize basic anatomy, kinesiology and training principles to conduct safe and effective classes.
Use only legally purchased and department-approved music.
Record class attendance.
Answer participant questions regarding programs and classes.
Communicate with supervisors regarding unsafe conditions or equipment.
Prepare for each session by arriving 10-15 minutes early and Setting up equipment.
Ensures all equipment is returned in serviceable condition and all facilities are prepared for the next occupant.
Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.
Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies are adhered to by participants.
Reports accidents and prepared accident report as required.
May be required to administer first aid to injuries suffered by participants and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as necessary.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU
Fitness instructors may be asked to show knowledge by submitting a fitness routine to include a block and weekly plan for a course of instruction and be asked to lead a partial class with the current instructor to demonstrate knowledge prior to an offer of employment.
Training may be available to interested applicants that make a commitment to fitness.
Parks and Recreation will certify instructors in CPR/First Aid/AED if not currently certified.
Education and/or Experience:
Experience and/or training in teaching fitness classes is preferred.
Ability to swim is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Nationally recognized fitness certification or the ability to obtain one.
CPR/First Aid/AED
Pay may be dependent on experience and certification held.
