Job Summary: The Great Plains Good Health and Wellness (GPGHW) Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the design, implementation and evaluation of culturally relevant, evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
The incumbent will work closely with tribal health departments, grassroots community coalitions, Indian Health Service, and a network of professionals to assure best practices in obesity, tobacco, diabetes, heart disease and stroke prevention are being integrated to elevate the health status of the Great Plains tribal communities.
The program coordinator reports to the Good Health and Wellness Program Manager.
Essential Functions: Develop and provide training and education to tribal partners/leaders, coalitions and community members on best practices, promising practices and evidence-based policy, system and environmental (PSE) strategies and community-clinical linkages.
Help develop timelines and work plans, utilize an analytical/evaluation approach for complex projects and designs, develop policy analysis, provide technical assistance and contribute to evaluation plans and processes of tribal subawardees.
Assist in conducting community needs assessments, data collection, evaluation and facilitation of programming at participating sites as needed.
Oversees and produces, from concept to completion, a broad array of culturally appropriate digital and/or print promotional and communication materials for the program and ensure that all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization and/or brand.
Promotes and attends special events and functions in tribal communities; reports on subawardee milestones and activities such as goals and projects; new services; community service activities; and new hires.
Foster relationships with national, state, local and tribal partners to strengthen program collaborations and partnerships.
Coordinate and aid in writing a variety of reports including, but not limited to progress reports, annual reports and internal reports.
Ensure formal agreements, contracts, invoices and purchase requests follow proper channels and are in accordance with the funding agency and GPTLHB policies/procedures.
Assist with administrative functions as needed including, but not limited to: maintaining and coordinating the program budget; travel arrangements; expenses and logistics for trainings and meetings; maintaining inventory for program equipment and materials, recording and transcribing meeting minutes; obtaining quotes and supplies for program related activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Controls The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments.
When there are new, difficult, or unusual assignments, the supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for including suggested work methods or advice on source material available.
The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help.
The supervisor reviews finished work to assure methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures.
Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments if the employee has not previously performed similar assignments.
Guidelines Guidelines are available but are not completely applicable to the work or have gaps in specificity.
The employee must use judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines, such as agency policies, regulations, precedents, accreditation requirements, advanced clinical protocols, and work directions for application to specific cases or problems.
The employee analyzes results and recommends changes.
The employee uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or researching trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, or proposed new policies.
Guidelines include GPTLHB, OHC, and department policies and procedures.
These guidelines are generally clear and specific, and deviations must be authorized by the supervisor.
Complexity/Scope of Work The work includes some variations and may involve different and unrelated processes and methods.
The decision regarding what needs to be done depends upon the analysis of the subject, phase, or issues involved in each assignment, and the chosen course of action may have to be selected from many alternatives.
The work involves establishing criteria; formulating projects; assessing program effectiveness; or investigating or analyzing a variety of unusual conditions, problems, or questions.
The work product or service affects a wide range of organizational activities, major financial activities, or the operation of other programs divisions of the organization.
Contacts The personal contacts are with individuals or groups from both inside and outside the organization in a moderately unstructured setting.
For example, the contacts are not established on a routine basis and the purpose and extent of each contact is different.

Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience, or associate degree and three (3) years’ experience, or high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience.
Three to five years of experience in public health, business or a related field preferred.
Experience that indicates the ability to interact effectively with leaders among American Indian communities, government agencies, scientific and academic communities, medical and health- related organizations, nongovernmental groups, and the public at large is preferred.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of South Dakota with a clean driving record.
The GPTLHB is a tribal organization which follows tribal preference laws.
It is our policy to give preference to qualified Indian/Tribal candidates overqualified non-native candidates in hiring decisions if all other qualifications are equal.
Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
