Job Summary The Controller supports the day-to-day operations.
As part of this responsibility, the controller will work closely with all managers.
The Controller will work to develop and manage the budget, reports, financial statements, accounts payable, and key performance metrics.
A successful Controller must have the ability to function as a part of a team and be able to think creatively and critically.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting the General Manager in developing the company’s financial strategic plan.
Accountable for team performance and progress toward company goals.
Managing all accounting activities and staff relating to general ledger (G/L), accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), Work-in-Progress Schedule, payroll, and cash flow.
Ensure accounting transactions are recorded and posted following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Hiring, training, and supervising accounting staff as the company grows.
Manage the preparation of the annual report including profit & loss, balance sheet, and cashflow statements, Work-in-Progress Schedule, and any ancillary financial reports requested.
Assist in the preparation of an annual budget, track variances, and look for opportunities to strategically cut costs and increase margins.
Ensure strong job-costing practices are in place, especially for the New Construction division.
Collaborate with Project Management staff to provide project-specific cashflow projections to the General Manager and facilitate accurate customer requisitions for payment.
Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and strategic firm offerings/acquisitions.
Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Producing company financial statements within five business days after the close of each month.
Monthly review of organizational spending to support a formal Budget and Forecast process, reporting to the General Manager.
Collaborate with external accountants, tax preparers, or auditors as directed.
Oversee tax compliance and filings.
Develop and ensure adherence to internal control policies and procedures.
Identifying and implementing financial controls to mitigate risks associated with inventory management and service delivery.
Work with department managers to develop strategic and operational business plans for the company.
Working closely with Operations Manager to ensure that the collection of money is occurring at the point of service or that proper paperwork for financing is being signed at the point of service.
Key focus is to ensure the process is in place and the operational staff are educated on the process and policy to execute and reported to the General Manager for noncompliance.
Managing accounts payable to take advantage of all available discounts from vendors.
Where discounts are not available, pay accounts per the company’s current cash flow or AP Management Policy.
Avoid any finance charges being assessed for late payment.
Identify opportunities for vendor negotiation and advocacy.
Direct internal financial process, controls, and health assessments and provide recommendations for improvements.
Monitor banking and credit card activities of the company.
Complete the quarterly financial statements for CPA review and submission to the bank.
Collecting and archiving key performance data such as number of calls run, number of leads run, average sale amounts, closing ratios, client renewal percentages, etc.
Produce statistical data for key managers.
Collecting and assembling the daily report information from the managers and providing the daily report to the General Manager by noon each day for the previous day’s business.
Managing the company assets such as vehicles, information systems, and communication systems.
Review and assist with Capital Expenditures and general asset planning, budgeting, acquisition, and protection.
Manage compliance with CCIP and OCIP insurance programs for the New Construction division.
Provide support to the overall risk mitigation efforts and insurance within the organization with an eye towards opportunity for cost savings or enhanced protection.
Assist with employee benefits package determination and administration, including but not limited to evaluating various employee benefits options, issuing recommendations to the General manager, providing employee education, remittance of employee contributions/deductions.
Follow and teach the company Core Values, Code of Ethics, Operating Procedures, and Team Philosophy.
Minimum Qualifications Must have 5 years of experience or equivalent in management and cost accounting.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license/certification preferred but not required.
Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their application in a large, diverse organization.
Proficient knowledge of QuickBooks or demonstrated history of working with various accounting software programs and proficiency to learn QuickBooks.
Capable of maintaining confidential written and verbal information.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
Must pass a background check and submit to a credit check.
Present and communicate professionally (written and verbal).
Must be a critical thinker with strong English composition skills.
Ability to organize, multi-task, and prioritize projects.
Positive self-starter who can take the initiative and drive their own learning.
Possesses a collaborative and customer-service focused work style.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Telephone etiquette and working knowledge of email systems.
Physical Demands: Ability to sit for extended periods of time (approximately 50%) working on computers and analyzing report data.
Mobility to attend weekly meetings throughout the company.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Occasionally lift 15-20 pounds.
